跨文化言语交际是一个表达者和接受者就什么是构成恰当的言语行为的领悟、理解和协商的过程。跨文化言语交际过程中言语行为的恰当实施和理解有四种认知前提：语言编码形式相同，言外之力相对应；完全不同的语言编码形式表达完全不同的言外之力；相对应的语言编码形式表达完全不同的言外之力；完全不同的语言编码形式表达相对应的言外之力。认知前提先在地介入言语交际活动，制约着表达者和接受者对言语行为模式的建构和理解。跨文化言语交际过程中如果交际双方能够共享这些认知前提，言外之力就能成功实施与理解，言语交际就能顺利进行，否则就会导致交际中断。

Cross-cultural verbal communication is a process of understanding, comprehending and negotiating what constitutes appropriate speech act between Addresser and Addressee. In cross-cultural verbal communication, there exist four cognitive presuppositions of appropriate performance and appropriate interpretation of speech act： corresponding encoding of corresponding illocutionary force, different encoding of different illocutionary force, corresponding encoding of different illocutionary force, different encoding of corresponding illocutionary force. Cognitive presuppositions do not appear on the surface of verbal or written language, but restrict Addresser＇s construction and Addressee＇s interpretation of speech act model. With shared cognitive presuppositions, it is easy for cross-cultural communication to be successful. Otherwise, it is easy to break down.
