This paper analyzes character of Lala, Dong＇er and Yanchun＇s and their struggle sense as female in You Are a River. Lala, the widowed mother, is hardworking, magnanimous and tough, reflecting the women＇s struggle to life. But at the same time, she is ordinary, selfish and ignorant, which subverts mothers＇ holy in traditional literature. Dong＇s rebel to her mother and being away from home shows the struggle to the life circumstance. Yanchun＇s self-centered view and strong personal awareness express her persistent pursuit of the secular world, strong attachment idea in marriage and the need of social position.
