本文界定了翻译教学中"工具能力"的概念。借鉴翻译研究者Heather Fulford的针对翻译工具使用情况的研究方法和调查问卷,对某大学EFL学生在完成某项真实(翻译)任务的过程中如何提高其翻译工具能力进行了实证研究,以求探索一种快速有效的培养工具能力的教学模式。研究结果表明,真实任务能显著提高学生电子工具的使用频率和使用效率,增加和强化其工具选择的多样性和目的性,从而建构学生工具能力,即运用电子工具灵活解决翻译问题的能力。

This paper first delineates the concept of instrumental competence in translation education.Using Heather Fulford's research methods and questionaires on the application of translation tools for reference,an empirical study on how EFL students improved their instrumental competence in real-life translation tasks was conducted,so to set up a pedagogic model that would develop instrumental competence in a quick and effective way.Results revealed that real-life tasks could significantly improve both the frequency and efficiency of tool applications.They could also increase the variety as well as enhance the purpose of tool options.In a word,real-life tasks help facilitate the development of students' instrumental competence,the competence of applying the electronic tools to problems solving more flexibly during the translation process.
