乡土文学是中国现代文学的重要类别,现实性是其艺术生命所在。它写乡土之事、抒乡土之情,奠定了现实性传统。它的发展与中国现代变迁紧密相连,呈现出多样形式,也曾一度偏离现实,发展式微。二十世纪末兴起的＂新乡土文学＂努力回归现实性传统,使乡土文学焕发新生。

Rural literature is an important genre in Chinese modem literature, with realism as its artistic vitality. It tells rural stories, expresses rural feelings, and has established its realistic tradition. Its development is closely related to China＇ s transmitting of modernization, demonstrating variety of forms. Yet it has also for a time lapsed from reality and been on decline. The ＂new rural literature＂ rising at the end of 20th century has strived to return to the realistic tradition, bringing a new prosperity for the rural literature.
