Form-meaning relationship remains an important topic for linguistic studies. To address this, Construction Grammar views a clause as a construction, a pairing between syntactic structure and argument structure. Based on an investigation into 197 verbs, the present paper explores the form-meaning interface of the English ditransitive clause (NP1-VP-NP2-NP3) from the perspective of the operational plausibility of the linguistic system. It has three major findings. First, verb types aside, the ditransitive clause can be categorized into five major variants, each identified with Object, a transferred object of various kinds-- Thing, Identity, Information, Aetion or Event. Second, the actual comprehension of the clause activates a multi-dimensional and dynamic conceptual frame instead of a mono-dimensional argument structure. Third, the conceptual discrepancies of the transferred object result in major variations of the clause in terms of their conceptual frame, embodied in the different conceptual conflations and syntactic realizations. These variations paint a picture of a finer and more complicated form-meaning interface of the clause beyond the notion of form-meaning pairing.
