现代体育在中国的传播深受日本影响。甲午战争促使中国人重新审视日本,大批官员与有识之士主动前往日本进行考察,教育是其主要目标之一。通过他们的努力,发端于欧美的现代体育经过日本的消化吸收后,辗转来到中国,并以新学制的形式,在官方得到肯定。着眼于这个过程,以吴汝纶和罗振玉的考察为主要研究对象,展现现代体育在中国产生与发展的初期状况。

Japanese had a profound influence on the spread of modern physical education in China.Sino-Japanese War in 1895 led Chinese people to re-examine Japan.A large number of officials and scholars take the initiative to survey its education system.Due to those hard works,the modern physical education originated from the West was introduced to China from Japan,and then established in modern education system.The paper is devoted to show the general image of the process,based on the original survey records of WU Ru-lun and LUO Zhen-yu,in effort to show the rooting and development of physical education in China.
