文章以西域绘画遗存和晋唐文献为基础，对具有异域色彩的“凹凸花”进行了考辨，认为“凹凸花”即晋唐时期从西域传过来、并经中原改造过的建筑彩绘，它与丝绸之路西端的建筑装饰之间有着密切的联系。

The essay makes a textual study in ＂concave and convex designs＂ with alien hue based on the remains of paintings in the western regions and the document of both the Jin and Tang Dynasties and holds that ＂concave and convex designs＂ were introduced from the west regions during the same age and subjected to architectural painting reformed in the central plains to link closely with the architectural decoration at the west end of the Silk Road.
