马克思主义的唯物史观主要建立在对西方资本主义社会的研究基础之上，缺少对西方以外的社会，即东方社会和前资本主义社会，特别是原始社会的研究。中国马克思主义学派的民族学学者们在中国少数民族社会历史调查中，通过对鄂温克族和鄂伦春族的研究，丰富和发展了马克思主义关于原始社会，特别是有关原始公社制和原始社会末期发展阶段以及原始社会向阶级社会过渡的理论，从而丰富和发展了马克思主义唯物史观。

Based mainly on the research of western capitalist society, material conception of Marxism is lack of the research on society beyond western, such as on Oriental and pre - capitalist society, especially on primitive society. During the research on Chinese minority＇ s society and history of the ethnology scholars from Marxism school in China, research on Ewenki and Oroqen enriched and developed Marxism on primitive society, especially on primitive commune system, stage of development from the end of primitive society and on the theory of primitive society＇s transition to class society, and thus the material conception of Marxism.
