金堡是明末清初的著名遗民和僧人。受易代剧变和人生际遇的影响，金堡最终选择了逃禅。逃禅后，与大多数“以忠孝作佛事”的逃禅遗民不同，金堡彻底放弃了儒家立场，转向了佛教人生。他主张“道法不在节义中”，用佛法拯救乱世人心，以菩萨之心关怀天下，救助难民。但时人以“遗民之金堡”来衡定“高僧之澹归”，对他多有斥责，实在是一误解。
금보시명말청초적저명유민화승인。수역대극변화인생제우적영향，금보최종선택료도선。도선후，여대다수“이충효작불사”적도선유민불동，금보철저방기료유가립장，전향료불교인생。타주장“도법불재절의중”，용불법증구난세인심，이보살지심관부천하，구조난민。단시인이“유민지금보”래형정“고승지담귀”，대타다유척책，실재시일오해。
Jinbao was a famous adherent of Ming Dynasty and a monk in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty. After the fall of Ming Dynasty, Jinbao got tonsured and became a monk. As a monk, Jinbao didn＇t stick to ＂Loyalty＂ and ＂Piety＂ and totally abandoned the Confucian position. He thought that Buddhism didn＇t concern the reputation. Jinbao encouraged people＇s heart with Dharma and, economically, helped refugees. It＇s a misunderstanding for people to evaluate and scold Jinbao only with the standard of an adherent but ignoring his monk identity.
