在西方,阿瑟.韦利（Arthur Waley）的译本在《诗经》的7个英语全译本中,是视野较为独特而影响较大的,在世界上几乎与英国传教士理雅各的译本齐名,在我国翻译界也被誉为《诗经》翻译史上的重要里程碑之一。韦利的独到之处,在于其在翻译过程中广泛采用了文化人类学视角,故诸多译文读起来颇有新意。与此同时,这一视角也使得他对部分诗篇内容过于穿凿,致使不少译文出现了失误。这种现象很有翻译学意义。

There have been altogether seven complete English Shijing versions in the western world,and one of them,Waley＇s version,is unique and influential,has shared an almost equal fame with James Legge＇s and Bernhard Karlgren＇s versions world wide,and has been appraised in China as monumental in the history of Shijing translation.Waley＇s uniqueness lies in its anthropological perspective applied to the understanding and translation of the poems,many of which are typical of new interpretation.The overuse of the anthropological perspective,however,also engenders some mistranslations,which is quite inspiring to translation studies.
