根据霍夫斯泰德的文化维度理论,美籍华裔作家谭恩美的成名作《喜福会》所描绘的母女之间的冲突和隔阂,源于不同的文化背景;而她们最终的相互理解和融合,说明不同文化亦可以达到理解与和谐。小说传达出中美两种异质文化从冲突走向和谐共融的信念,同时也表现了作者自己对待母文化与新文化的态度。

From the perspective of Hofstede＇s five Dimensions of National Cultures,the estrangement and conflict between mothers and daughters in The Joy Luck Club by Chinese American writer Amy Tan originate from their different cultural backgrounds.Their mutual understandings and reconciliation at the end of the novel show that different cultures can understand and reconcile with each other.The novel conveys the belief that the Chinese culture and the American culture will be harmonized and reconciled after experiencing the cultural confrontation.It also shows an attitude towards the inheritance of the parent culture and the assimilation of the new culture.
