正确理解八卦名义,有助于理解《易》本义,有助于深入发掘中国早期哲学。八卦之“乾”字本有向上、上达、刚健、不息之义,与“健”同,故日“乾,健也”;“坤”从申声,象地,其德当为厚,而不得曰“坤,顺也”;“坎”谓地面低陷处,水之所在,故以代水,其德当为入,不得日“坎,陷也”;“离”借为“丽”,取明丽义,而非附丽义;“巽”为卦名专字,其德当为顺,不得日“巽,入也”;“艮”借为“限”而有止义,本当音限;“兑”为“悦”古字,本当读“悦”。

It is not only helpful in comprehending the original meaning of Zhouyi but also in digging the early philosophy of China deeply to understand the name and meaning about the Eight Diagrams correctly. In this paper:" Qian" of the Eight Diagrams contains the meanings going up, vigor and going on, which is the same as "jian", so "qian" is said "jian". "Kun" is from the sound of "shen", which is like the earth, its characteristic is thick, but not "shun". "Kan" means the lower places, in which the water is kept, so it stands for water, its characteristic is going in, but not "xian". "Li" is from brightness, and it is the meaning of brightness and beauty, but not attach in existent. "Xun" is the special word of divination, its characteristics is "shun", but not going in. "Gen" is the word taken from "xian", which is the meaning of restricting, and it should be read "xian". "Dui" is the old word of "Yue" and it should be read "Yue".
