皎然与道家文化有甚深因缘，这一方面表现在他曾经信奉过道教，学习过长生驻颜之术；另一方面表现在其作品大量吸收和化用老庄术语和思想。这种因缘对皎然诗学产生了深远影响。其自然观、“言外之重旨”说、“意静神王”论，以及“逸”格理论均受到道家文化的沾溉。

There is deeper cause between Jiaoran Poetics and Taoist culture, which shown in two as- pects. The first one is that he had believed in Taoism, learning the art of longevity. The other hand, he paraphrases and assimilates Laozi and Zhuangzi terminology and thinking in his works. This cause had im- pact on View of nature, the theory about Subaudition and the The theory about leisure style in Jiaoran po- etlcs.
