人际功能是指话语情境中交际参与者之间的互动关系，在交际过程中，说话者试图通过表达自身的态度、动机、判断等，实现建立社会联结，影响甚至改变他人态度和行为的交际目的。人际功能是语言的三大纯理功能之一，是说话者作为交际参与者的“意义潜势”，人际意义主要由情态、语气和基调系统实现。通过对短篇小说《看不见的日本人》中男女主人公对话的情态、语气分析，可以揭示交际参与者各自不同的性格、态度、判断、相互之间的社会关系及微妙变化等是如何通过情态和语气系统得以实现的。

Interpersonal meaning is mainly realized by modality, mood and key system of language Modality and mood analysis of the conversations between the heroine and hero in the novelette entitled ＂The Invisi- ble Japanese Gentlemen＂ reveals how the conversation participants＇ personality, attitude, judgment and the delicate changes in their social relationship, etc. are realized through modality and mood system.
