Shuowenguangyi, written by Wang Chuanshan, was the pioneering works which studies Shuowen in Qing Dynasty. In this book, Wang has supplied the missing characters, distinguished the phonetic loan characters and went over the pronunciation of the characters. It has rich content. The greatest contribution lies in the research on the extended meaning of characters. There were some historical reasons for its burring into oblivion. Its statue should be established in the research realm of Chinese history and Shuowen studies.
