本文从对组织内部知识转移和创新情况的关切出发,对知识转移机制、组织结构正式化程度与企业创新绩效之间的关系进行了实证研究,探讨了随着组织结构正式化程度的变化,不同知识转移机制的使用对企业创新绩效的直接作用,以及它们之间的交互作用对企业创新绩效的影响。本文的研究发现,强制性与非强制性知识转移机制,以及它们之间的交互作用对企业创新绩效均有显著的正向影响;组织结构正式化程度倒U型调节非强制性知识转移机制与创新绩效间的关系;正u型调节强制性知识转移机制与创新绩效间的关系。本文的研究结论对于发展知识管理以及提升中国企业的创新能力具有重要的启示和指导意义。

In the new business environment, characterized by increasing uncertainty and complexity, knowledge management is increasingly considered as an important source of sustainable competitive advantage for organizations. The ability to transfer existing knowledge within organization is one of the most strategic capabilities which organization possesses, and a principal source of sustainable competitive advantage. The issue of managing knowl- edge to organizations' benefit--identifying and leveraging knowledge within organizations to help them compete has been prompted, Over the last few years, there has been an upsurge in interest among scholars on the importance of knowledge-based resources and their role in organizations. In this study, the primary research goals are directed toward understanding the process through which knowledge is successfully transferred within organization, and to find out what the most critical determinants of knowledge transfer are and how these factors influence innovative performance. In order to address these issues, we propose and test a basic model of knowledge transfer that captures the relationship between knowledge transfer mechanism, the formalization of organizational structure, and innovative performance. Unlike previous research that focused on the antecedents of knowledge transfer, in this study, we investigated how knowledge transfer mechanisms (i. e. , coercive knowledge transfer mechanism and noncoercive knowledge transfer mechanism) and their interaction affect inter-firm knowledge transfer and innovative performance. A statistical analysis of questionnaire responses from 126 Chinese firms was performed. The results indicated that knowledge transfer mechanism and the formalization of organizational structure are critical for knowledge transfer. Specifically, coercive knowledge transfer mechanism, noncoercive knowledge transfer mechanism, and their interaction positively related to innovative performance. Moreover, the effects of coercive knowledge transfer mechanism and noncoercive knowledge transfer mechanism on innovative performance are moderated by the formalization of organizational structure. The relationship between noncoercive knowledge transfer mechanism and innovative performance across low, medium, and high levels of organizational structure formalization is inverted U-shaped. The relationship between coercive knowledge transfer mechanism and innovative performance across low, medium, and high levels of organizational structure formalization is U-shaped. In this study, we provide an exploratory investigation of the relationship between knowledge transfer mechanism, the formalization of organizational structure, and innovative performance. As a complement to previous re- search that focused on the antecedents of knowledge transfer and transfer success, we focused on how knowledge transfer mechanism and organizational structure impact innovative performance. Our results indicated that knowledge transfer mechanism significantly contributes to innovative performance. We also investigated the relatively unknown impact of the interaction effect of different knowledge transfer mechanisms. Our results indicate that the in- teraction effect on innovative performance is significant, indicating that coercive knowledge transfer mechanism and noncoercive knowledge transfer mechanism do interact with each other to influence innovative performance. Moreover, this study also examined the modulating role of organizational structure formalization in the relationship between knowledge transfer mechanism and innovative performance. The results indicate that the formalization of or- ganizational structure is curvilinear with respect to the relationship between knowledge transfer mechanism and innovative performance. This paper contributes to this line of research by showing both direct and interaction effects of knowledge transfer mechanism on innovative performance, as well as the modulating effect of organizational structure formalization. These findings also have some implications that are potentially important for firm managers, especially in regard to the organizational activities in which knowledge transfer is critical.
