从符号学角度看,所有的“立象”都属于人类符号活动。“象”的起源远远早于《周易》,最早的广义的“象”的形式不是卦象,而是音乐、绘画和文字,即所谓“声象”、“形象”和“言象”。摹仿与巫术是“声象”和“形象”出现的原动力。在“声象”与“形象”基础上创造出来的“言象”,一方面具有“声象”和“形象”的拟真性;另一方面,也承袭了“声象”与“形象”的巫术性。“书不尽言,言不尽意”涉及的是“书”、“言”、“意”三者的关系。而玄学家王弼的“尽意莫若象,尽象莫若言”,已经把卦象与爻辞的关系暗自转换成了“言象”与“形象”的关系,从而为讨论真正的“文学性”提供了一种可能。王弼的主张是对于老庄思想的继承和发展,既包含了为道日损的精神实质,也涵盖了“心斋”、“坐忘”的主体哲学。

From the perspective of semiotics, all "creation of image" belongs to signs of human activ-ities. The origin of "image" was far earlier than the "Book of Changes". The earliest generalized "im-age" was not in the form of diagrams, but in music, painting and writing. They were so-called "a-coustic image" and "painted image " and "speech image". Copying and witchcraft were the prime mo-tive of the emergence of "acoustic image" and "painted image" . The "speech image" was created on the basis of "acoustic image" and "painted image" which on the one hand was quasi true of "acoustic image" and "painted image", on the other hand, it also carried the quality of witchcraft of "acoustic image" and "painted image". "Books are not speech, speech not the meaning" was related to the rela- tionship among"book", "speech" and "meaning". But the metaphysician Wang Bi's "nothing can equal image in giving the fullness of concept, while nothing can equal language in giving the fullness of im- age" has converted the relationship of Guaxiang and Yaoci into a relationship between "speech image" and " painted image" inwardly, so as to provide a possibility to discuss the real literariness. Wang Bi 's viewpoint was helpful to inherit and develop Zhuang Zi's thought, which contained the meaning of carrying out the truth through deconstruction and also covered the subiectivity philosophy of "peace in mind "and " transcending and understanding the world by forgetting worldly things "
