清代两浙文学世家的区域分布极为不均衡，主要集中在杭嘉湖宁绍五府，其中浙西地区远多于浙东；其时代演变总体上呈现历时递减态势，从清前期到中期世家数量骤然剧减，清后期依然衰减。清代两浙文学世家的文学传承有着鲜明的时代性和地域性，即家族、地域与流派唱和有着高度的融合性。文学世家一方面致力于本家族的文学建设，另一方面又是乡邦文学的引领者和建设者。同时，文学流派和文人结社也往往由家族文人群体组成和参与，建立在家族文化圈的基础上。

Geographically, the literary families in Zhejiang Province during the Qing Dynasty （1644 - 1911 ） were chiefly located in five prefectures： Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Ningbo and Shaoxing, and there were more such families in Western than in Eastern Zhejiang. Historically, the number of literary families was dwindling throughout the Dynasty, slumping in the first half and continuing to fall off in the second. The in- heritance of literature in these families was with rich historical and geographical colors, characterized by full integration of family traditions, local features and literary genres. These families were not only devoted to the literary activities within themselves but also initiating and contributing to the local progress in literature. Liter-ary schools and societies at that time were mostly participated in or even organized by members of these fami-lies, and therefore based on the familial culture.
