作为现代“儒学三圣”的熊十力，他提出了哲学就是究“体”之学。既然哲学是究“体”之学，那么就必然牵涉到如何究“体”，如何表达“本体”以及如何阐释“本体”的方法论问题。在熊十力看来，“性智”即“体认”是究“体”之方法，“遮诠”是表达“本体”之方法，“譬喻”是阐释“本体”之方法。此方法论重直觉，不重逻辑、分析，其缺陷是知识论不发达。

As one of the ＂ three Confucian sages＂, Xiong Shili maintains that philosophy is the study of ＂ substance＂. Thus, methodological questions of how to study ＂substance＂ and how to express and interpret ＂ontology＂ must be discussed. It is believed by Xiong that the ＂intuition of wisdom＂ namely ＂cognition＂ is the way to study ＂substance＂, ＂negative exposition＂ is the method to express ＂substance＂, and ＂metaphor＂ is the means to interpret ＂ substance＂. Excessively emphasizing on intuition, this approach is short in logic and analysis with an insufficiency in methodology.
