玉柄形器一般由柄和身两部分组成，有的还发现有“鞘”，多出于夏商周时期的王都、方国都城里的中高级贵族墓葬中。玉柄形器无论形制还是使用特征均与现存几件战国时期的“节”相合，因此，这类玉柄形器器名亦应为“节”，因其为玉质，所以可称之为“玉节”。结合《周礼》相关记载，玉节应为夏商周时期诸侯或贵族出行时表示身份的信物。
옥병형기일반유병화신량부분조성，유적환발현유“초”，다출우하상주시기적왕도、방국도성리적중고급귀족묘장중。옥병형기무론형제환시사용특정균여현존궤건전국시기적“절”상합，인차，저류옥병형기기명역응위“절”，인기위옥질，소이가칭지위“옥절”。결합《주례》상관기재，옥절응위하상주시기제후혹귀족출행시표시신빈적신물。
The handle-shape jades are usually composed of handle and body, some even have scabbards, and most of them have little weight and size. The sites where they discovered are often the tombs of senior nobles in capitals of kingdom or state of Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties. The shape and use character of the handle-shape jades is in accord with several bronze fie of the warring states period, so the jades should be namedjie, because they are jades, they can be named jadejie . According to Zhou Li, the jadejie is a kind of authenticating object of nobles.
