五四时期翻译风尚的转变，以新文化人对林纾的批判为分水岭。在这场论战中，林纾很快落败并成为文学翻译的反面典型，其原因是多方面的。经过这场论战，以林纾为代表的用文言翻译西方小说，具有“删译、改译、选材零散没有系统”等特征的翻译退潮，代之以直译的方法翻译西方名著，翻译风尚发生了巨大的变化。
五四時期翻譯風尚的轉變，以新文化人對林紓的批判為分水嶺。在這場論戰中，林紓很快落敗併成為文學翻譯的反麵典型，其原因是多方麵的。經過這場論戰，以林紓為代錶的用文言翻譯西方小說，具有“刪譯、改譯、選材零散沒有繫統”等特徵的翻譯退潮，代之以直譯的方法翻譯西方名著，翻譯風尚髮生瞭巨大的變化。
오사시기번역풍상적전변，이신문화인대림서적비판위분수령。재저장론전중，림서흔쾌락패병성위문학번역적반면전형，기원인시다방면적。경과저장론전，이림서위대표적용문언번역서방소설，구유“산역、개역、선재령산몰유계통”등특정적번역퇴조，대지이직역적방법번역서방명저，번역풍상발생료거대적변화。
The new intellectualsr criticism on Lin Shu was a watershed of the change ot translation tendency in the early part of the May Fourth Era. In this debate, Lin Shu was quickly defeated and regarded as a negative model of literary translation, which was due to a number of reasons. Through this debate, the tendency to translate the western literary works into classical Chinese, to alter the original texts as the translators pleased and to choose the original texts without systems receded. To translate the western masterpieces into Baihua in a literal way became popular and the literary translation tendency radically changed.
