吴宝康教授向来重视对中国档案学基础理论的研究，尤其重视对中国档案学演变史的研究，他把中国档案学演变史分为“史前时期”、萌芽时期、形成时期和发展时期四个阶段，并对每个阶段的发展状况做出了客观中肯的评价。吴宝康熟练地运用马列主义、毛泽东思想，运用辩证唯物主义和历史唯物主义的观点，较为准确地为我们描绘了中国档案学演变的全过程，并指明了中国档案学的未来发展趋势，具有重大指导意义。

Professor Wu Bao-Kang had always attached great importance to the study of the basic theory of archives science and attached particular importance to the study of the evolution history of Chinese archives science. He divided the evolution history of Chinese archives science into four stages, which was prehistoric, infancy, formation, development and made objective and impartial appraisal to each stage. Wu Bao-Kang skillfully applied Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, dialectical materialism and historical materialism, accurately depicted for us Chinese archives science evolution in the whole process and pointed out the future development trend of Archival Science in China, which was of great guiding significance.
