生态文明既是世界现代化发展的新趋势，也有着中华传统文化的思想源泉。中国生态文明之路的开拓大致可划分为三个时期：20世纪70年代中后期以来，中国开始将环境保护确定为基本国策；20世纪90年代中期，中国提出并开始实施可持续发展战略，强调生态环境建设；21世纪初，提出了科学发展观的重大战略思想。进一步强调要坚持全面、协调、可持续的发展，提出要建设生态文明。中共十八大提出中国特色社会主义建设“五位一体”的总体布局，把“生态文明建设”提升到更高的战略层面，开始了“走向社会主义生态文明”的一个新时期。

Eco-civilization is a new tendency a world modernization, and it has traditional Chinese culture as its ideological source. The opening-up of China＇ s eco-civilization path can be divided into three stages： since 1970s, environmental protection has been established as national policy in China： in mid-1990s, sustainable de-velopment strategy was proposed and came into effect in China and eco-environmental construction has been stressed： in the early 21th century, strategic thought of scientific development concept was put forward, compre hensive, coordinated and sustainable development was further stressed, and eco-civilization was advocated. Over-all layout of ＂Five-in-One＂ of socialism with Chinese characteristics was proposed at the 18th CPC National Congress, eco-civilization construction has been raised to higher strategic level, and China has marched into a new stage of ＂socialist eco-civilization＂.
