意大利籍耶稣会士利玛窦是天主教传华史、中西文化交流史上的著名人物。明清以来，为其作传者不少。其传记首创之作是刘承范《利玛传》，它为利玛窦离开肇庆迁居韶阳的原因提供了新的解释：张维枢与艾儒略的利氏传记，从中国士大夫与来华传教士的两个不同角度，对利玛窦的生平进行了阐述；韩霖、张赓之作，则展现了中国普通文人与信徒对利玛窦的认识；《明史·意大里亚传》提供了清政府的官方看法；阮元《畴人传》主要介绍了利玛窦在天文学与几何学方面所传播的新知识及其贡献。

Matteo Ricci, an Italian Jesuit, is a well-known figure in the history of Christian missions in China and the history of Sino-Western cultural exchange. A lot of people wrote his biography since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This paper studies the six Matteo Ricci＇s biographies of the Ming and Qing dynasties as well as their characteristics and announces some new historical data. The first biography, written by Liu Chenfan, gives a new explanation for the Ricci＇s leaving Zhaoqing for Shaoyang; the biography by Zhang Weishu ＆ Giulio Aleni describes Matteo Ricci＇ s life from the two different angles of Chinese literati and missionaries in China; the biography by Han Lin ＆ Zhang Geng demonstrates Chinese literati believers＇understanding of Matteo Ricci; the biography of Matteo Ricci in The History of Ming presents official views of the Qing government; the biography by Ruan Yuan introduces mainly a new knowledge of astronomy and geometry Ricci spread and his contributions.
