党的十八大明确提出建设美丽中国的宏伟目标，这一目标的确立是当代中国面临日趋严峻的生态环境和资源形势所作出的战略性选择，彰显了党坚持可持续发展战略，致力于改善人民生存和发展环境，积极打造绿色中国、生态中国的执政理念。“美丽中国”首先指称的是一种优美宜居的自然生态环境，同时又表征了一种和谐有序的社会发展环境，体现了自然之美与社会之美的有机统一。建设美丽中国必须以生态文明为依托，通过建设资源节约型、环境友好型的“两型”社会，打造“生产空间集约高效、生活空间宜居适度、生态空间山清水秀”的美好家园，并在此基础上，全面推进我国经济、政治、文化、社会以及生态“五位一体”总布局的协同推进和全面发展。建设美丽中国，实现中华民族永续发展，是当代中国生态建设的必然逻辑，它必将推动中国社会走向生态文明新时代。

The 18th National Congress of the CCP overtly advocates the grand goal of constructing a beautiful China. This goal is set up against the increasing severe ecological and resource condition the current China is confronted with, an act that manifests the sustainable strategy to which the Party adheres so as to improve the people＇s living and developmental en- vironment, and to realize the ideal of constructing a green and ecological China. ＂A Beautiful China＂ means, first of all, a natural ecological environment that is suitable for amiable living; it also points to a harmonious, ordering development, an organic unity with natural and social beauty. It must rely on ecological civilization in terms of constructing a society that is resource~economical and environment-friendly. It sets up the goals of establishing a beautiful home by ＂being intensive and effective in production, comfortable in living, and green and clean in ecology＂, on the basis of which we push forward the coordinating progression and manifold development of the economy, politics, culture, society, and ecology.
