浙东文学建立在浙东哲学基础之上，追求“文辞”“义理”“事功”的统一。浙东文士深受浙东历史文化熏染，有良好的学养、强烈的道德意识，这些要素确立了浙东文学的基本走向，形成了“文辞”“义理”“事功”相融合的综合型文学观。这种文学观既在理论层面强调“文”与“道”的合一，又在实践层面将“文”“道”合一思想落实到“事功”层面，即注重将文学的艺术性与实用性统一起来。这种文学思想成为明初洪武、建文年间的主流思想，并对后世产生了深远的影响。

The East Zhejiang Literature emerged on the basis of east Zhejiang philosophy and appealed to the unity of ＂diction＂, ＂connotation＂ and ＂contribution＂. Influenced in the history and cuhure of the east Zhejiang province, men of letters cultivated their sound qualities and intensive awareness of morals that determined the main direction of the literature, and formed their comprehensive concept of literature which fused ＂ diction＂, ＂connotation＂ and ＂contribution＂. Such an outlook of literature emphasizes the unity of ＂literature＂ and ＂doctrine＂ in theory and carried out the idea in practices, that is the union of the artistic and the practi- cal. The literary thoughts became the major trend of literature in the Hongwu and Jianwen periods, conducting a farreaching influence upon the descendents.
