宋元之际阿拉伯贸易对于南宋政权的兴亡具有加速或延缓作用，一方面阿拉伯贸易为南宋中央和地方两级政府提供巨额海关税收，另一方面以蒲寿庚为首的阿拉伯商人集团与福建左翼军形成了一种对蒙元和南宋政治走向产生重要影响的地方势力。在南宋与蒙元交战的最后时期，蒲寿庚叛宋投元加速了南宋的灭亡。因此，对蒲寿庚的功与过学界论说不一，本文认为蒲寿庚叛宋的间接原因是陈宜中等滥杀无辜，造成了福建左翼军与朝廷的相互不信任。当然，直接原因则是张世杰劫掠蒲氏的船舶和家赀。
