Building on the cultural relevance of Germanic studies, the intercultural Germanic studies is a newly developed branch of the field with interdisciplinary, intercultural and trans-regional features. Its rise has caused great controversies in the academic circles. This paper focuses on the h/story and theoretical essence of intercultural Germanic studies and the criticisms thereon, so as to enable more profound and objective understanding thereof.
