司马迁曾遍览中祕所藏,且具有敏锐的史家眼光,其《史记》特重采摘《尚书》,其采摘去取要远胜于当时的《尚书》学大师,方式十分灵活。其诠解《尚书》及《书序》资料,不限今、古文说义。特别是《太史公自序》篇,从多个层面对《书序》有所模仿。《史记》所述孔子＂序《书传》＂、＂序《尚书》＂、＂论次＂《书》,等等,并不等于言孔子作《书序》,其义均谓孔子曾＂编次＂过《尚书》。
