代数是学生进入高年级数学学习的基础。在美国,很多学生学习代数有困难,也因此而无法进行后续更高级数学内容的学习,所以美国提出了“大众代数”的口号。为实现这一目标,他们开始讨论研究如何在小学低年级就渗透一些代数概念和思想,以帮助学生顺利完成从算术到代数的过渡。我国课程中代数处理有三大特点:(1)小学算术中互逆的运算同时呈现,有助于学生理解运算之间的关系,并为解方程作好铺垫;(2)列方程解应用题中算术方法和代数方法并行使用,有助于学生理解问题中蕴含的数量关系;(3)教材中出现的等式,有助于学生形成对等号意义的多角度理解。

Algebra is the base of mathematic study when students come to their senior year. In America, many students have problems in algebra learning, which also makes it hard for them to go on the following-up higher class mathematic study. Therefore, America has raised a slogan of "General Algebra". In order to realize this aim, they start to discuss and research about how to penetrate some algebra concepts and thoughts in primary grades, helping students to successfully complete the transition from arithmetic to algebra. There are three characteristics in algebra processing of our country's curriculum: (1) A simultaneous display of a reciprocal operation in primary arithmetic helps students to understand the relationship between operations and make a good preparation for equation solving; (2) When using equations to solve the word problem we apply both arithmetic method and algebra method to help students understand the quantitative relation contained in the problem; (3) Equations in the textbook help students to form a multi-angle understanding for the meaning of equal mark.
