In the academic circles, there have been endless debates about the nature of the 17th century Revolution in England. If we observe it from the macroscopic perspective of the nation-state formation, we might get out of the erroneous zone in our understanding. This paper will discuss the policies of Charles I about religious reforms, study the relationship between the 17th century Revolution in England and its formation of nation-state, and have our basic understanding about the nature of the Revolution in England. On the one hand, the Revolution in England was not a landmark event belonging to the category of bourgeois revolution as many scholars claimed, nor was it an accidental episode in the English political history as some other researchers considered. We would rather consider it as a major event to consolidate the position of the English nation-state, which not only accorded with the universal rules of the nation-state development in Europe, but also conformed with England' s own logic in its historical development. On the other hand, we believe that the Revolution in England had dual characteristics in its religious and constitutional attributes, which were determined by the specific historical conditions in its nation-state formation.
