我国出现较早的地方学是敦煌学、徽学、藏学＂三大显学＂。改革开放以后,尤其是近些年,我国地方学研究方兴未艾,相关机构如雨后春笋般纷纷出现,比较活跃的地方学研究机构已有数十个,各地的地方学已经取得了很多研究成果。我国地方学研究机构之一、中国地方学现任轮值主席单位＂北京学研究所＂,以＂立足北京,研究北京,服务北京＂为宗旨,经过15年的发展,已经取得了较为丰富的研究成果,但是还存在一些困难和问题,需要进行再认识,并明确下一步的努力方向。

Early local studies in China refer to such three major studies as Dunhuang Study, Hui Study and Tibet Study. After the reform and opening up to the outside world, especially in recent years, local studies in our country have been flourishing rapidly and many institutes of local studies have appeared. There are about ten active institutes of local studies in China and have made great achievements. The Institute of Beijing Studies, the present- term chair institute of Chinese local studies now, aims at ＂ focusing Beijing, studying Beijing, and Serving Beijing＂. With the development over the past 15 years, the Institute of Beijing Studies has also made great academic achievements, but still has some difficulties and problems. It needs to be re-recognized so as to tailor a definite goal of its development in the future.
