1944年日军为了打通大陆交通线，发动了豫湘桂战役。是年11月，桂林沦陷，至1945年7月日军撤出，日军侵占桂林及周边地区8个多月。桂林周边的村庄在此战中发挥了重要作用，也遭受了重大损失。许多民众由于亲身经历过桂林之战，有十分真切的感受，记忆独特、新颖，具有不可替代性，是评价此战重要而不可多得的依据。民间的历史记忆可归纳为“逃难”、“日军抢夺、破坏、屠杀”、“民众人性”、“日军败退”四个方面，这些记忆蕴含着丰富的历史信息。日军侵占桂林期间的民间历史记忆的保持方式应尽量多样化。
1944년일군위료타통대륙교통선，발동료예상계전역。시년11월，계림륜함，지1945년7월일군철출，일군침점계림급주변지구8개다월。계림주변적촌장재차전중발휘료중요작용，야조수료중대손실。허다민음유우친신경력과계림지전，유십분진절적감수，기억독특、신영，구유불가체대성，시평개차전중요이불가다득적의거。민간적역사기억가귀납위“도난”、“일군창탈、파배、도살”、“민음인성”、“일군패퇴”사개방면，저사기억온함착봉부적역사신식。일군침점계림기간적민간역사기억적보지방식응진량다양화。
In 1944, the Japanese army launched battles in Henan, Hubei, Hunan and Guangxi for the pur- pose of breaking through the mainland transportation line. Guilin fell in November of 1944. It was not un- til July, 1945 that the Japanese army withdrew from Guilin. Japanese army occupied Guilin for over 8 months. The surrounding villages of Guilin played an important role in the battle but suffered heavy losses as well. Many people experienced the Anti-Japanese War in Guilin, and their memories are novel, unique and irreplaceable, which are rare evidence for evaluating the war. The folk historical reminiscence can be summarized into four types ：＂escaping＂,＂Japanese plunder, destruction and killing＂, ＂human nature＂ and ＂Japanese retreat＂, all containing rich historical information. The ways of retaining folkhistoric reminis- cence of Japanese occupation of Guilin should be diversified.
