京杭大运河作为世界上最长的人工河，是我国历史文明的象征，是我国可流动的历史遗产。大运河不仅对中国古代的经济社会发展和文化交流发挥了重大作用，现今仍然发挥着巨大的作用。现在京杭大运河的雏形形成于元朝。基于南北经济水平的不平衡、运输对河漕的依赖以及宋金时期运河的残破，为了解决南北运输的问题，元政府对大运河进行了大规模的修治。元朝政府修治大运河，惠及当时，泽被后世，功不可掩。大运河因南水北调增加了新的功能，现已局部投入使用的南水北调东线工程就是利用京杭大运河河道作为引水渠。

As the world＇s longest artificial river, the Grande Canale is a symbol of China＇s history of civilization and historical heritage. The Grande Canale not only played a major role to economic and social development and cultural exchanges in ancient China, but also plays a huge role today. The Grande Canale took shape in the Yuan Dynasty （1206--1368）. Due to the imbalance of the North-South economic levels, the dependence on the river water transport and the disrepair of the Canal of Song- Jin period, in order to solve the civil transport problem, the government of the Yuan Dynasty carried out a large-scale repair for the Grande Canale, as has been benefiting the later generations till today. As the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the Grande Canale is added with new functions. The eastern route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project being partially put into use makes use of the Grande Canale River as a diversion canal.
