This essay explores the three forms of "geographical presence" in Ibsen's dramas, namely, the overt, occasional and potential presence, based on the methodology of geographical schema and theory of literary geographical criticism. The overt form of geographical presence in the dramas settles for the physical description of the natural geography; the occasional form. On the other hand, it plays an important role in the formation of the characters subtle psychological space. The potential form, however, displays a perfect combination of natural geography with the characters' psychology and emotions. Literary geographical criticism advocates genuine concern for and dialogue with the nature, as well as the combination of physical description with spiritual landscape. The different forms of "geographical presence" in Ibsen's dramas show that the dramatist is in constant pursuit of dramatic art.
