晚明书坊在戏曲刊印与发行过程中为获取稿源，谋求利润，不惜采用各种盗版与作伪手段。常见的盗版方式为：翻刻别家刻本，不交代版刻来源：将他人作品改换名目，冒充新作刊刻；将他人作品据为己作刊刻印行。常用的作伪手段有：购买戏曲旧版，修改版权题署，伪作新书印售；收购戏曲残版，铲改、增补旧刻，另易书名发行；伪托名家作序和评点。
