庞德在意大利期间同侨居于此的中国学者杨凤岐之间有书信往来，分析这些史料可以追潮庞德与杨凤歧之间关于懦学政治化的争论和情谊．进而驳斥西方学者提出的庞德固懦学研究而走向法西斯主义的观点。作为一名深受儒家思想熏陶的中国学者，杨凤歧认为庞德的法西斯立场和懦学观点是两个并存而不能等同的思想体系，得知庞德在研读《四书》后，杨便鼓励他“专心于此”，目的显然是让其虚心投入懦学而远离法西斯。杨凤岐虽未能真正改变庞德的政治立场，但他关于中日战争以及懦学思想的言论无疑使庞德在他的法西斯岁月里避免了彻底的偏信则暗。

The surviving correspondence between Pound and Yang Fengqi brings into the open not only their controversy over the War of Resistance against Japan, but also their collaboration on Confucian translations. Yang Fengqi identified Confucianism and Fascism as two separate systems coexisting in Pound＇s mind. He encouraged Pound to occupy himself with the study of the Four Books. Their 1939 - 1941 correspondence furnishes a rebuttal of the view that preoccupation with Confucianism led Pound to Fascism. Although Yang Fengqi did not succeed in changing Pound＇s political stance, to some extent, he helped to decrease Pound＇s susceptibility to Fascism in the early 1940＇s.
