从学者和学术成果的地理分布来看，唐代学术文化的发展是不平衡的。在唐代289年间，各道都曾出现过著名学者。唐代学者主要分布在以长安为中心的京畿地区、以洛阳为中心的中原地区，以燕冀为中心的华北地区和以苏杭为中心的江浙地区。学术成果则主要集中在关内道、河南道、江南道、河北道、河东道，陇右道、山南道和剑南道的成果较少，岭南道学术文化水平相对较低。这种差异的出现，与各地的自然环境、社会环境、文化传承和发展程度都有一定关系。

The academic culture showed imbalance in development in the Tang Dynasty in terms of the geographic distribution of scholars and academic accomplishments. In 289 of the dynasty, eminent scholars appeared in different prefecturess. Generally, the scholars in the Tang Dynasty were mainly distributed in the Jingji area around Chang＇ an, the Central Plains around Luoyang, northern China around Yah and Ji states, and Jiangsu and Zhejiang around Hangzhou. The academic accomplishments, however, were mainly contributed by Guannei, Henan, Jiangnan, Hebei, Hedong, Longyou, Shangnan and Jiannan prefectures, whereas academic culture was backward in Lingnan province. These differences had something to do with different natural surroundings, social environments, cultural traditions and levels of development in different areas.
