从新中国成立到改革开放前，编撰一部全面完整的党史教科书，一直处在中共中央的视野下，有过编写计划，采取了若干举措。之所以提出这项编写党史的任务，起初是为迎接中共八大做准备，后来是为适应国际国内反修斗争的需，最终因为“文化大革命”的爆发而夭折。其问经历的反复、变动乃至放弃，同苏共二十大后国际共产主义运动领域的改写历史之思潮，以及国内中共党史编写工作面临的种种困难密切相关。

Since the founding of the PRC, even until the launch of the great cause of Reform of Opening Up, to compile a comprehensive history of the CCP has been one of the core tasks of the Central Committee. Some gener- al compiling plans have been initiated and even particular moves have been undertaken. The major purpose of this important task being launched, at its early stage, was due to the preparation for the Eighth National Congress of the Party, and later on it was gradually shifted to serve the struggle of Anti-Revisionism domestically and abroad ; however, it was finally aborted because of the Cuhural Revolution. During this period, the relapse, change, and even abandonment of this task were closely related to both the thought of rewriting the history of international com- munist movement right after the Twentieth National Congress of the Soviet Communist Party and various difficulties facing the work of the CCP＇ s historiography.
