英语语言学术语morpheme的常用汉译不少于四个,实际使用中存在着规范性问题.本研究旨在评议“词素”、“语素”、“形素”和“形位”四个译文的使用得体性,具体方法沿以下路线展开：考察它们的各自来由及本原意义,确定本评议所依据的评判标准,考释源语的本质含义,梳理目标语的语言属性,并结合译文受众的专业背景和使用传统进行客观性评判.研究表明,“词素”和“语素”分别作为针对英语和汉语词汇研究的morpheme的汉译都具有很强的理据性,只是后者的概念含义有必要进一步厘清,应摆脱语音限制.

Aiming at evaluating the felicity of the four existing translations of the English morpheme： cisu （word constituent）, yusu （language constituent）, xingsu （constituent of word form） and xingwei （prototype constituent of word form）, the study explores the origins, connotations and attributes of these Chinese terms with a comparison of the essence of the source language terms as well as the influential standards proposed for the English-Chinsese translation of linguistic terms. Besides, factors like the target language nature, the term-users＇ professional background, and the term-using conventions are taken in considera- tion. The conclusions includes： when morpheme is applied to other languages as a universal linguistic term, it may refer to a smallest meangful unit of morphological form, either phonetic or ideographic; Chinese language is ideographic, and Chinese morpheme should refer to the smallest meaningful unit of ideographic forms, i.e. constituent of Chinese word; Chinese transla- tion yusu may continue to be in use, but its conceptual meaning should be focused on word constituent whether or not it entitles the independent pronunciation; cisu should be strongly recommended.
