纹刻嘛呢石是将石刻、绘画、雕刻技艺有机结合具有地域特色的民间艺术形式之一,是藏传佛教信仰的独特表现方式。其本质上是万物有灵思想和祈求神灵庇佑精神内涵的物化表现。纹刻嘛呢石具有直观的传播性、鲜明的宗教特征和含蓄内敛的写意性特征。

Engraved Mani stones are one of the regional folk arts with an organic combination of stone cutting, painting and sculpture. They are the unique expression of the belief in Tibetan Buddhism and the materialized expression of animisim and pray for God' s protection. Being introverted and symbolic in feature, they are also visually communicative and distinctively religious in characteristics.
