四科诸哲,伯牛无考,仲弓存歧;宰予名不副实,子游稍逊其称;其余诸贤,皆名至实归。四教以四科彰显其价值追求,四科因四教而成十哲之名。颜回德望名重,而为颜氏之儒;然子夏西河教授,儒学始兴。
사과제철,백우무고,중궁존기;재여명불부실,자유초손기칭;기여제현,개명지실귀。사교이사과창현기개치추구,사과인사교이성십철지명。안회덕망명중,이위안씨지유;연자하서하교수,유학시흥。
Of the ten sages in the four humanistic arts,all of them were well worth their fames except for Boniu,no mention of whom was found in any recorded documents,Zhonggong,whose fame was disputable,and Zaiyu, who fell a little short of his fame. The four humanistic arts revealed the different value pursuits of the four academic fields,which helped to establish the fames of the ten sages. Yanui became the most outstanding of Confucians with his popular reputation while Zixia contributed much to the prosperity of Confucianism by his excellent teaching in Xihe.
