Variant Form of Characters of Luo (洛&雒); Hart and Wei Dynasties; Five Elements ; Taboo

According to the system of Five Elements, the lucky element is Fire for Hart dynasty while the unlucky one is Water, and for Wei dynasty, the lucky element is Earth which can overcome Water. In the Brief History of Wei (魏略) written by a historian of the State of Wei during the Three Kingdoms period, character ‘洛’ (with left side ' 氵 ' resembles water ) was revised into '‘雒' in the Eastern Hart dynasty; When it came to the Wei State, the character ‘雒' was revised in the reverse way All these had been suitable and effective implements based on the certain historic background and political culture at that time. However, after these two revisions, there is now no clue of distinguishment of usage of the two charcters ‘洛' and ‘雒' The author claims that, studies on Characters from unearthed files have proved that '洛' Luo in 'Luo River' was with the ‘氵 ' in pre-Qin period, but as in the in-between years of Qin and Han dynasties, the ‘雒' was already used to replace the charcter ‘洛' in some situation. The revisions and usage of luo ( ‘ 洛' and ‘雒') can be a clue of the respect and caution regarding the Five Elements in Han and Wei dynasties.
