从公元前770年到前206年。因护送周平王东迁洛邑而襄公被封诸侯立国伊始．到秦二世胡亥灭亡，秦人经历了前后565年的历史进程。在这漫长的六个世纪中，秦人不断地从西向东发展，成为中国历史上唯一一个完成了从附庸到方国、方国到王国、王国再到帝国三次大的政治升华的先秦古国：在这漫长的六个世纪中，秦人营建了与其国家政治升华相适应的多座公、王、帝陵。

During the development of more than half a millennium, the Qin State successively built ten royal mausoleum precincts, which were Xichui, Ya, Pingyang, Yong, Yueyang, Xianyang, Zhiyang, Dudong, Hansenzhai and Lishan. Their discovery and studies unveiled and cleared up the mausoleum precincts of the Qin State without any extant traces above the ground and had only fragmentary records scattered in the historic literatures, and linked them into a historic chain to show us the sequence of the forma- tion, development and evolution of the royal burial system, so they are the most systematic and complete physical materials for the researches on the high-ranking burial systems in ancient China. From the ten mausoleum precincts, we can see the gradual changes of the mausoleum system of the Qin State in the graveyard, grave, tumulus, ritual architecture, attendant burials, accompanying pits, gates and gate tow- ers, etc. These gradual changes were intensified as time went by and finally completed the systematic permutation from the ＂centralized royal cemetery system＂ to the ＂ independent mausoleum precinct system＂ , by which the foundation of the imperial burial system of ancient China was firmly laid.
