大学具有以批判精神为核心价值的权利性格，知识分子作为大学权利性格的承载者和践行者，其批判精神内发于求真向善的道德认知，外化为维护公共权利的道德实践。知识分子敢于向权力言说真理，关涉社会价值秩序和人类生存样式的重构，以“牛虻”般的批判精神促使个人和社会不断地自我省察。当下，人文知识的衰落、专业和体制的规训造成了知识分子批判精神的式微，象牙塔内的纯粹理论者逐渐遗失了知识分子原初的意向性意义。
