通过情景选择及补全对话测试考察了中国英语学习者(英专组和非英专组)汉语恭维语应答的情况。与一组从未接受过英语教育的受试(零英语组)进行对比,结果表明,英专组应答时遵守赞同准则而产生了语用“外借迁移”现象,而非英专业组与零英语组应答方式均遵守谦虚准则。优选论分析表明,产生“外借迁移”现象是由于英专组在应答时将赞同准则列为高级别制约条件;而非英专组在作答时仍以谦虚准则为高级别制约条件。

A multiple choice test and a dialogue completion test were carried out to examine Chinese EFL learners' compliment response behavior. Compared with a group of non-English speakers, English majors follow the Agreement Maxim and thus "borrowing transfer" is resulted, while the non-English-major group tends to follow the Modest Maxim, which is similar to way of the response of the non- English-speaker group. Through an OT analysis, it is argued that the English major group tends to take the Agreement Maxim as the higher ranking constraint in response to the compliment, whereas the non-English-major group and the non-English-speaker group take the Modest Maxim as the higher ranking constraint.
