国家是卡斯特对信息时代进行分析的重要概念。他将国家放入技术与社会变迁的关系以及认同的建构中进行分析，认为国家是促进网络社会崛起的关键性变量，但网络社会产生之后越来越抛弃了民族国家。全球化过程会使民族国家的权力走向衰落，造就出一种流变的权力，并带来一系列的危机，而解决危机的良方就是建立网络国家。在此过程中，国家作为权力分析的范式已然解体，但作为认同分析的范式却得到了强化。目前我国正处于大的社会变迁期，要全面建设小康社会，除需提升政府的执政能力外，还需注重对社会成员的认同建设．提升公民对国家和社会的认同。

The state is an important concept in Manuel Castells＇ analysis of the information age. His analysis a bout state is bound up with the relationship between technology and social change and the construction of identity. He believes that the state is a key factor to the rise of the network society. After that, the network society abandons the state. The process of globalization makes national power decline, create a flowed power, and bring a series of crisis. The way to solve the crisis is to establish a network state. In this process, analysis of the national power as paradigm has been disintegrated, but the identity analysis paradigm has been strengthened. Our society is experiencing drastic social transformation ; to bring moderate prosperity well - rounded, we need to enhance the government＇ s ability ; in addition, we need to pay attention to the construction of identity to social members and improve their recognition of the state and society.
