中国语言学有3000多年的历史，富有自己的学术传统和研究范式。然而，从19世纪中后期开始，在西方外来强权和强势文化的冲击下，中国的社会结构和固有文化体系面临解体，学术研究深受西方学术范式的影响，中国传统学术从而发生了根本性变化，研究范式发生转型。与此相应，中国传统语言学也随之转型为现代语言学。中国现代语言学在形式描写、结构分析、历史比较等方面突飞猛进，成果丰硕，终于跟上了世界学术研究的脚步，成为中国现代学术研究的一个重要部分。

With a history of more than 3,000 years behind, linguistics in China was possessed of its own academic tradition and research paradigm. However, beginning from the mid and late nineteenth century, Chinese social structure and its inherent cultural system disintegrated under the impact of the Western powers and their strong cultures from abroad. And fundamental changes took place in traditional Chinese scholarship and transformation began in its research paradigm due to the profound influences of the Western academic norm. Corresponding to this, traditional Chinese linguistics has since transformed itself into modern linguistics thereupon. That is, modern linguistics in China has made remarkable progresses and reaped great achievements in the fields of formal description, of structural analysis, and of historical comparison and so on, and this has enabled it to catch up with the footsteps of world academic research as an important branch of China＇ s modern academic research.
