文化是大学的根基和血脉，文化追求是大学的本真特质和独有性格。转型社会带来的社会文化冲击，使得国内一些大学偏离了文化的价值追求，呈现出庸俗化、功利化、权贵化和娱乐化的特点。大学要为未来负责，就应该守护大学涵养人性、砥砺品性、引领思想和价值导向的文化使命，同时，也应顺应时代需求和促进社会进步，正确处理好传统性与现代性、民族性与国际性、守护性与超越性等关系。
