通过比较中关两国的城市化，分析边缘城市产生的社会经济背景和动因，从城市边缘空间演变、城市化发展动力和政府政策引导作用3个维度阐述边缘城市的产生，界定边缘城市的概念。从经济发展阶段、城市发展波段、人口与城市化、交通方式和土地政策等方面探讨了边缘城市理论在中国的适应性。目前中国的城市形态中并没有出现所谓的“边缘城市”，边缘城市理论不适宜解释中国城市的发展，但对我国城市规划有重要的指导和借鉴作用。

Firstly, this paper examined the socio-economic background and why the concept of edge city was created. Secondly, the paper defined the concept edge city and explained how edge city developed from the evolution of the edge of urban edge space, process of urbanization and the policy of government. And then, investigated the applicability of the theory of edge city in China from five aspects, which include the stage of economic development, urban development band, population and urbanization, transportation and land policy. Finally, argues that socalled the urban form of “edge cities” emerged in USA, does not existed in China＇ s current urban form, and the edge city theories is not appropriate to explain the development of China＇ s cities, however, it may provide some reference for urban planning in China.
